Hi! My name is Jewel Cox and welcome to my website! Here you can learn about my interests, accomplishments, and services.
Bio
Jewel Cox is a Yale University first-year undergraduate student. She is interested in identifying and implementing solutions to the structural barriers inhibiting access to healthcare. Jewel has assisted medical professionals at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center and studied Emergency Medicine through Summer Springboard at UCLA.
She has a profound interest in languages and was one of around forty students, from an applicant pool of thousands, selected to attend the U.S. Department of State’s National Security Language Initiative for Youth program in Korea. A compassionate leader, she founded and heads the Culture Club and Justice Discussion groups at her school and in service to her community, runs peer outreach groups through the California Scholarship Federation.
For her outstanding scholastic achievement, she has consistently received the Principal’s Award throughout her high school career. Jewel is also an honorary College Board National African American Recognition Program Scholar and an inaugural member of Onward Scholars at St. Mary’s Academy. She volunteers as a tutor, and participates in cheer and track.
As I work towards serving my community through health care, I’ve gained experience after being selected to volunteer at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center within St. Mary’s Academy’s Health Careers Program. I’ve also particpated in programs such as Summer Springboard at UCLA to prepare for a career in medicine.
In order to create positive change in my community, I’ve taken action to create safe spaces for social and cultural learning. I founded the Culture Club and Justice Discussion Group at my school, and continue to support my peers as a tutor through the California Scholarship Federation.
As a result of my interest in foreign cultures, I’ve developed an interest in language learning. I have been studying Korean for three years, and was one of around forty students out of an applicant pool of thousands selected to study Korean through the US Department of State’s National Security Language Initiative for Youth program (NSLI-Y).

Some pics from my college visits!
In February 2021, I was one of a selected few high schoolers chosen to attend Harvard’s annual Black Health Matters Conference. Check my blog post from 2/28/21 for more information!
Pics from my trip in April 2021
As a freshman, I was selected to volunteer at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center and gained valuable knowledge from medical professionals until the Covid-19 pandemic. I also spent time mentoring elementary school-aged children at Alexandria House, a home for women and children escaping domestic violence.
I went on a class trip. to D.C. in 2018 and had a great time!
I’ve been cheering since my freshman year of high school and love it! Away games were the funniest!
In honor of becoming an upperclassman, I was given a personalized ring as part of our school’s junior ring ceremony!
Trust me, the food was top tier.
Me, but the tinier version.
One of my favorite places to be!
I tried lots of fun stuff like this during our Onward Scholars retreat in 2019!
